The Finaport Zug Open premieres on the ATP Challenger Tour

Switzerland is getting a brand new professional tennis tournament! The newly launched Zug Open (July 24-31, 2022) is entering into a multi-year partnership with Finaport as title sponsor (see media release, June 2nd 2022). Pascal Bucher, Finaport Partner, explains the motives for the commitment.

What motivated Finaport to become title sponsor of the Finaport Zug Open?

On the one hand, we are pleased to be able to support the establishment of top tennis in the greater Zurich area. In recent years, Finaport has grown strongly internationally, but Switzerland is and remains our home, our base. The Finaport Zug Open offers a great opportunity to provide a sporting spectacle for our clients and the community.

On the other hand, I grew up in Zug and see a sports-enthusiastic, open-minded and innovative city that has developed fantastically and still wants to develop further. As title sponsor, Finaport hopes to shape the development of the tournament further in the long term through co-creation, generating excitement in Zug and beyond.

How does Finaport identify with tennis?

Tennis requires technique, stamina talent and heart but also nerves of steel - it's no different for Finaport. Professional tennis players are characterized by discipline and ambition. They perform consistently at a high level, knowing that a few points at key moments can make all the difference.
A professional tennis player does not panic when losing, nor become euphoric when ahead. The focus is not on the past 10 points, but exclusively on the next point.

This principle also applies to investments. Studies show most investors buy after prices have risen and sell after a correction. We at Finaport understand this dynamic and are sparring partners with our clients. We take out the emotions and focus together on the next point.

The Finaport claim is to consistently deliver - point for point - above-average service and performance setting us apart from our competitors.

Thanks in part to your commitment, the Finaport Zug Open has immediately achieved the highest possible classification of 125 as a tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour. What do you hope to gain from this?

The high category and the many ranking points to be won, create a direct incentive for players to participate in the tournament. The Finaport Zug Open relevance - both in sporting terms and in the media - is high. Since every point on the ATP Challenger Tour can be decisive in qualifying for the major tournaments on the ATP Tour and the Grand Slams, the highest level of competition is to be expected. Top stars are not created overnight. Finaport wants to make a contribution by giving young talent an opportunity to gain a foothold on the ATP Tour and become new figureheads of the sport.

Where do you see the secret of success, for tennis players as well as for financial professionals?

At Finaport, we have an easy-to-understand strategy which helps our clients withstand times of volatility and assists our clients stay the course in a storm.
